That’s 3.9 cents per gallon, they must have saved up some hefty loyalty discounts.

    2. The display is busted. This fuel cost $2.49/9 per gallon. Most fuel rewards programs cap their savings at 20 gallons, so no matter how much the person was actually saving per gallon, the pump most likely would have shut off at 20 gallons.

I got a 19 gallons for 2 cents once with the ingles card.

Brought the price down to .001 per gallon and paid for 20.

    4. Back in 2009 a gas station messed up and I got a full tank for $5.
Moved the decimal to make it $0.2499

When I worked at stop and shop they had a promotion that would earn gas points.

I would swipe my store card on orders over $250. You’d be amazed how many people don’t have cards even with large purchases.

Anyways, using it at specific gas stations would mean getting discounted gas. You were allowed up to 30 gallons so my mother and I would bring our cars and fill both up, most of the time paying less than $0.10 per gallon.

I also got $0.05 back per dollar spent, so I would get like $20 in store credit per shift. Surprised management never caught on.

    6. One time my wife gassed up and only paid about $2. Turns out the gas station owner typed in the wrong number for gas prices. Supposedly it’d been that way for a couple of hours before my wife spoke up.

    7. Do grocery stores in countries outside the U.S. have gas discount points? If not, that explains why so many people don’t believe this and are saying (erroneously) that the screen is malfunctioning or the glare from the sun obscures the number in the tens place for the price.

I think Shell has a $75 limit on filling up with points.

They could definitely also have maxed out a gift card.

We have a thing like this with our local grocery chain, they have a rewards card where you get so many cents off per gallon for different items. Buy the right stuff and it could definitely add up to that much of a discount. When you use the pump it lowers the price/gallon shown on the display exactly like OP’s picture.

Earlier this year one of the gas stations in LA messed up a decimal and gas was like 49¢ a gallon. I was heartbroken cuz I didn’t find out until I saw the news article posted here a few hours later. The line was around the friggin block.

There was a gas station where someone screwed up and programmed in mid-tier at $.10/gallon. It was a few hours before anyone caught on.

    11. Gas points from local
Grocery store you can get up
To $2.00 + other instore purchases can get you even more off per dollar. Nicely done.

    12. I have enough rewards with both Wawa and QuickChek to get a big gas discount, but they’re not allowed in my state.

    13. I just paid $1.09/gallon yesterday in Houston, TX… using 1000 Kroger rewards points to drop a full dollar off of the regular price. Felt awesome to fuel up 18+ gallons for less than $20!

A friend of mine owned a construction company and all their company vehicle drivers were instructed to use the same phone number for the Shell rewards. The more they used, the more discount they got per gallon. Whenever we hung out, he asked if I needed gas in my vehicle. I never turned him down as it would equate to about $.20 to $.30 for a full tank. OP’s photo is legit.

    15. I got 27 gallons at Martins a few years ago for one cent. Went to the booth to drop in the penny and the teller told me not to worry about it and have a good night.

    16. I believe it, my wife owns a popcorn shop and has to buy a lot of groceries at our local grocery store which they have gas savers on either how much you spend or on certain items. She usually spends $0.20 for up to 20 gallons of gas and if she has gas saver left over I get to use it as well and pay the same price

    17. They probably just had a ton of gas points from Giant.

Where I live Giant points work at the Shell station so I’m assuming it’s Giant.

My grocery store does rewards you can use at gas stations.

They frequently do 5x rewards on gift cards, so I’ll load up on the ones I frequently use.

I paid $0.019 per gallon for gas, but they cut you off at 20 gallons.

Paying 38¢ for 20 gallons of gas is pretty cool.

I put in my area code and 867-5309 and got over $1 off per gallon. I’ll also try 281-330-8004 every now and then

    20. Where I’m at, you can get rewards on certain items that give you 15 or 30 cents off a gallon. You stack those up and you can get results like this. For example, buy 2 celcius energy drinks for $5 and save 15 cents a gallon.
